SEND
Introduction, Aims and Policy

At Maples Nursery School and Children's Centre, alongside quality first teaching and a rich EYFS curriculum, we provide differentiation in our approach and provision. Children with SEND are supported and enabled to learn at their pace and level of understanding alongside their peers throughout the Nursery.
Staff are highly experienced in many areas of SEND and have a good understanding of the need for a targeted approach.
Staff use Makaton and visuals at the child’s level of symbolic understanding, to support communication, transition, what’s happening ‘Now and Next’ and to give choices.
Emotion Station

In the main classroom and Intervention Room the children have access to the ‘Emotion Station’. The children can individually learn to regulate and understand their emotions, whether they are angry, upset, anxious or too excited with the resources provided.
We aim to:
- Create an inclusive environment that meets the needs of every unique child.
- Fully accept, respect and value every individual in our inclusive environment.
- Enable all children to have full access to all elements of the early years' curriculum.
