Introduction, Aims and Policy

At Maples Nursery School and Children's Centre, alongside quality first teaching and a rich EYFS curriculum, we provide differentiation in our approach and provision. Children with SEND are supported and enabled to learn at their pace and level of understanding alongside their peers throughout the Nursery.

Staff are highly experienced in many areas of SEND and have a good understanding of the need for a targeted approach.

Staff use Makaton and visuals at the child’s level of symbolic understanding, to support communication, transition, what’s happening ‘Now and Next’ and to give choices.

We have a ‘Calm Down Space’ for children who need to self- regulate, if they become angry, upset, anxious or too excited. Resources are provided to support the calm down process.
